Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino says the Blues convinced him to return to the “best league in the world” -The Premier League.
The Former Spurs boss, who became Chelsea coach on 1st July said this while facing the media on Friday afternoon in his first press conference.
“Thank you for your welcome. I hope you will be nice with me.” Pochettino said in his first remarks.
“I am so proud to be here. It’s a great opportunity for me to be back in the Premier League, the best in the world. #Chelsea convinced me to be here. A great team.”
According to Pochettino, the meetings he had with the owners and co-sporting directors, Lawrence Stewart and Paul Winstanley encouraged him to join the club
“They presented to me and we talked about many different circumstances, many personal situations [of players],” said Pochettino
“I trust them. I said, ‘You know better than me, and after July 1, I will be more involved.
“I feel good, I am not a coach that needs to ask for power, I don’t put things in my clause. The most important is to show them to put trust in me. I need to convince them that they need to trust, that’s the biggest power you can have
Chelsea had an awful 2022/23 season as they finished 12th in the Premier League despite having spent more than £600m on transfers.
Before the club zeroed down on Pochettino, they held talks with former Bayern coach Julian Nagielsman and former Spanish and Barcelona boss Luis Henrique to take up the role, but both rejected the club.
Chelsea will open up their Premier League season at home against Liverpool on August 13th.
