Mauricio Pochettino expressed deep disappointment following Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday evening.
Abdoulaye Doucoure’s second-half goal and Lewis Dobbin’s late addition sealed Chelsea’s fate in a game the Blues dominated most of the possession.
Everton, now four points clear of relegation after a recent 10-point deduction, has pushed Chelsea to 12th place, just six points ahead of Sean Dyche’s team at 19.
Pochettino, who had publicly criticized his players during their ongoing struggles, witnessed captain Reece James leave early once again, this time due to injury at Goodison Park.
In a candid interview with the BBC after the defeat, Pochettino addressed the team’s challenging situation.
“Football is about scoring goals and we were not clinical in front of goal,” he said. “I’m really, really disappointed.
“We didn’t get the point we deserved. I think we were better but we didn’t get what we wanted.
“This was a game to play and to win. It’s a problem we need to check. We need to analyse the reality. We need to talk and to try to improve in the next transfer market.”
I don’t say if I am going to ask for more or less players. It’s to see if the perception matches the reality.
“We are missing something. We need to improve our reality.”
On James’ injury, he added: “He felt something in his hamstring. It’s not so nice for him to suffer another injury. He is an important player.”
Apart from James, Roberto Sanchez and Marc Cucurella didn’t finish the game as both were subbed off due to injuries.
Chelsea host Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge next Saturday in what could be a crucial game for Pochettino. They then play host to Newcastle in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup the following Tuesday.
