Chelsea Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino has urged everyone to ‘believe in the process’ after his side’s 3-1 loss to West Ham on Sunday.
Despite losing, the Blues were by far the better side of the game at the London Stadium as they dominated much of the proceedings, created chances and pilled alot of pressure on the West Ham backline.
Carney Chukwuemeka netted Chelsea’s lone goal while Nayef Aguerd, Michael Antonio and Lucas Paqueta were on target for the hosts.
Although disappointed by the loss, Pochettino saw a lot of positives from the game which led him to urge everyone to believe in the process as it’s still just in the beginning phase.
“Disappointed, but this is only the beginning. We need to believe in the process. I think we are going to be stronger and for sure be really competitive.” Pochettino told Sky Sports.
“That’s football. Teams like us, we need to get the right balance. I think today there were a few actions we didn’t manage well and we concede. We create many chances and we did well in the first half. We should have won the game with our first half.
“In the second half with another isolated action we concede again. To find the space to create clear chances [is difficult] but overall it is this type of game that is difficult to explain. You had the possession, you create and maybe you were the better side but in the end you lose.
“It was the frustration when we miss the penalty. We were playing well and we didn’t get the reward. We start the second half a little bit with this belief until we started again to play.”
The loss was Pochettino’s first as Chelsea boss since he was appointed in June.
In his first Premier League game , his side also dominated Liverpool, but drew 1-all at Stamford Bridge.
He will now hope that his blue army can move on to the next stage and secure their first victory of the season when they host Luton Town at the Bridge on Friday night.
