French striker Kylian Mbappe is currently involved in a battle about his future with his Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) bosses.
Mbappe, who has been at the club for six years, has one year left on his contract and wants to play it out to its expiry at the end of next season.
His bosses, led by club chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi, want him to either sign a new contract at the club or leave this summer, but will not let him leave the club for free.
In a new interview with France Football magazine, Mbappe launched an attack on the club where he labelled it as divisive.
“I think that playing for PSG doesn’t help much because it’s a divisive team, a divisive club. We did what we could [in the Champions League], period. You have to talk to the people who make the team, who organise the squad, who build this club,” Mbappe told France Football.
“Are people trivializing my performances? Yes, but at the same time, I don’t blame them. In France, they saw me grow up, they see me all the time, at PSG every weekend or in the selection,” Mbappe added, as he tried to explain that it is hard to impress critiquing fans when he is playing at PSG.
Mbappe’s comments did not sit well with his teammates, and it has been reported that six of them, who are yet-to-be-named have written to PSG’s chief Nasser complaining about the 24-year-old’s statements during the interview.
Mbappe is PSG’s record all-time goal-scorer with 212 goals in 260 matches. Last season alone, he scored 41 goals in all competitions for the club as they won the 11th Ligue 1 title, and the 5th for Mbappe.
