Arsenal will head into Saturday’s game against Sheffield United without two of their first team players after manager Mikel Arteta confirming that both Thomas Partey and Gabriel Jesus have been ruled out for a few weeks due to injuries.
While Partey who was an unused substitute against Chelsea over the weekend was left out in Arsenal’s Champions League 2-1 win against Sevilla in midweek due to an injury he sustained during training, Jesus started that game and actually scored and created an assist. However, he was forced off with an apparent hamstring problem during the game.
After undergoing scans, Arteta has confirmed that the pair won’t be available for a few weeks.
“The scan shows there is a muscle injury and we might lose him for a few weeks,” Arteta said of Jesus. “With Gabi, I cannot give you any timeframe because he always surprises us.
“But there’s something there he felt in an awkward action. It’s true he had quite a lot of load in the last few weeks, which he hasn’t in a long time. It’s really bad news for us.
“He has got a muscle injury and we expect him to be out for a few weeks. We don’t know the extent of it, he has more tests today. He picked it up with the last kick in training before Seville. It’s very unfortunate.”
Added to the duo, Arsenal will also be without long-term absentee Jurrien Timber for their game against Sheffield United.
