Arsenal’s dream of lifting a first Premier League title in 19 years continued yesterday with their commanding 4-1 victory over relegation candidates Leeds at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners produced a perfect response to Man City’s win over Liverpool to reopen an eight point lead at the top of the table. Pep Guardiola’s men had earlier in the day beaten Liverpool by the same scoreline to cut the point gap to five points, but Arsenal had the perfect response for their title rivals.
It was victory that surely has the Gunners sniffing at the finish line, and their boss Mikel Arteta knows his team can’t rely on other teams for favours.
“We can only focus on what we can control, and play as well as we can to keep winning games. I don’t look at the table and other teams. I try to be focused on ourselves and prepare for the next game. We don’t waste energy on others.”
Arsenal had three different goal scorers against Leeds among them was Ben White. The defender scored the second goal of the game- his second in four league appearances and like his manager, White says the focus is solely on the team.
“There’s a lot of noise going on outside, and everyone [here] is just keeping everything very quiet and just getting on with what we’re doing. We’re just keeping our heads down and working hard.”
Gabriel Jesus, one of the scorers was delighted to help his team bag all the three points. The Brazilian netted a brace, the first time he was getting into the score-sheet since October last year.
“I’m more happy with the three points than the goals. The most important thing is that everyone who has come in has played well. Everyone is playing so well. They made it easy for me.”
