Mo Salah scored two second half goals as Liverpool edged 10-man Everton in the Merseyside derby to temporarily move top of the Premier League table.
Both Salah’s goals came Everton a man down! After former Man United player Ashley Young receiving a second yellow card for a foul on Luis Diaz, the Egyptian from a penalty kick put Jugen Klopp’s men ahead.
Having held their Merseyside rivals level for the first 30 minutes of the closing half, Everton got breached from the spot by Salah with 15 minutes to go following a handball by Michael Keane while trying to block Diaz cross.
But Liverpool got denied by Pickford for their second after the Englishman jumped high to parry away Havey Elliott’s ferocious attempt at goal.
Before the game could come to an end however, Salah scored again to hand the Kops a deserved second of the game after good work by Darwin Nunez, who did brilliantly to set the Egyptian up.
With this loss, Everton will feel disappointed after they fought Ibrahima Konate could be sent off for a second bookable offense shortly before he was subbed off by Jurgen Klopp. With already a caution, the center back pulled Everton’s Beto down to hault a counterattack.
Everton’s lone goal scoring attempt throughout the game came earlier on in the contest when Dominic Calvert-Lewin had his header easily saved by Allison.
With this derby victory, Liverpool temporarily move top of the Premier League table with 20 points in their nine games.
In their next game, Liverpool will play Toulouse in the Europa League on Thursday, while Everton has a West Ham task.
