Napoli have named Victor Osimhen in their squad for tonight’s game against Udinese despite the striker’s agent Roberto Calenda threatening to take legal action against the club.
Calenda and and fans alike criticized Napoli for mocking Osimhen in a video the club shared on their TikTok account after the Nigerian missed a penalty in Napoli’s goalless draw against Bologna on Sunday.
The video, now deleted from Napoli’s official TikTok page, has gone viral and attracted widespread criticism from Napoli fans, especially Nigerians.
In response, Osimhen deleted all Napoli-related videos and photos from his official Instagram page.
The 24-year-old was instrumental in helping Napoli win their first Scudetto in 33 years last season, scoring 26 goals in 32 matches, and becoming the first African player to win the Italian Serie A golden boot.
Napoli have not started this campaign well. They sit eighth in the Serie A standings, having won just twice from their opening five matches (D2 L1). Osimhen has scored three of Napoli’s eight goals this season.
Napoli have not yet commented on the matter even though a section of fans have called out the Serie A defending champions to apologize to their star player.
Osimhen still has a contract with the club until 2025, and club president Aurelio De Laurentiis insisted the Nigeria international is not for sale.
