Alexander Isak, Jamaal Lascelles, Joelinton and Antony Gordon were all on target as Newcastle beat Chelsea 4-1 in a Premier League game played at St. James Park on Saturday evening.
Three of those goals for the Magpies came in the second half after Chelsea had lost control
Isak opened the scoring in the 13th minute when he was incredibly teed up by teenage Lewis Miley.
But 10 minutes later, Chelsea got level following Raheem Sterling’s exquisite free-kick from just outside the area. Despite not having much room for him to get it up and over, the English forward looped the ball over the wall to find the back of net with Nick Pope left motionless.
Before the break, Newcastle almost went ahead again, but the crossbar denied Kieran Tripper with Roberto Sanchez already well beaten.
With few minutes into the second half though, Newcastle finally took the lead after Chelsea had given away several free-kicks. From one of them, Lascelles headed in Gordon’s cross.
Within 90 seconds of restart, Joelinton capitalized on Thiago Silva’s error to score Newcastle’s third of the game.
The situation got worse for Chelsea soon afterwards as captain Reece James was sent off for a second bookable offense on Gordon, who had stolen the ball from the defender to race at goal.
Before the end of the game, Gordon made it four with a neat finish after running away from his marker Benoit Badiashile.
With this victory, Newcastle ends Chelsea’s mini-revival- which consisted of a three-game unbeaten run against Blackburn Rovers, Tottenham and Manchester City.
The Magpies also move up to sixth and keep up the pressure on the top four.
For Chelsea, they remain 10th for moment with 16 points.
Newcastle will play PSG next on Tuesday, while Chelsea will next be in action next weekend against Brighton and Hove.
