Manchester United have opened active talks with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) over the possibility of signing Neymar Santos Jr once the transfer window opens in July.
Neymar has been with PSG for six years now and his contract still runs until 2027 but reports coming from France indicate that he is ready to leave and find a new home.
Early this month, Neymar was at the receiving end of abuse by a section of PSG fans who invaded his home in Paris and chanted that he leaves the club.
According to French outlet L’Equipe, a number of Premier League clubs have shown interest in signing the Brazilian star but Manchester United are the frontrunners and have shown the most intent.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes Neymar can be a great addition to his squad and can help them perform even better starting next season and the seasons that follow at Old Trafford.
Neymar’s technical ability and performances on the big stage have seen him wow fans and critics alike wherever he has played starting from Santos FC in his home country Brazil, to forming one of the best attacking trios in Barcelona with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, saw him arrive at PSG in a then world record transfer fee of £189 million.
Sources close to this transfer say that Manchester United would prefer a loan move for Neymar but PSG are ready to let him go for good at a fee as they try to get some cash back from his investment.
Neymar’s big salary at PSG also comes into play here and it is yet to be seen whether Manchester United will match it or slash it a bit but big salaries have not been a problem for Manchester United over the years.
Last summer’s signing and compatriot Casemiro is said to already be persuading Neymar to join him at Old Trafford with other Brazilians Fred and Antony while PSG’s chief Luis Campos will soon meet Neymar’s representative to discuss the move.
