Manchester United have completed the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea, the club has announced.
The Midfielder joins the Reds from the Blues for an initial £55m fee, which could rise to £60m depending on the success and appearances over the seasons.
This comes less than a day after Mount said goodbye to Chelsea on his Instagram page, ending his long stay at the club.
He has put pen to paper on a five-year employment deal at Old Trafford which will end in 2028, and becomes the club’s first new addition this window.
“It’s never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career,” Mount said upon his move to United.
“Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies.
“Everyone can see that the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag. Having met with the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn’t be more excited for the seasons ahead and am ready for the hard work expected here.”
Mount joins United after having spent 18 years at Stamford Bridge, during which he won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
In 195 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea, Mount scored 33 goals while roviding 37 assists – the most any Chelsea player has made in the last three seasons.
The 24-year old is already capped 35 times with the English national football team, The Three Lions and has five goals in those appearances.
Ten Hag has now got his man, who he reportedly tried to sign in 2018 when Mount was on loan at Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem.
Mount and Manchester United will play in the UEFA Champions League next season after having finished third on last season’s English Premier League log.
