Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have confirmed the signing of Spanish attacker Marco Asensio on a free transfer.
PSG and Asensio reached an agreement for a long-term contract last month and they have been working out the paperwork since the end of the 2022/23 season.
Asensio’s limited game time at Real Madrid influenced his decision to leave and was convinced of playing more in Paris.
Asensio will reportedly earn €10million (£8.5m) per year in salary and potential bonuses at PSG and the opportunity for Champions League football at PSG made it hard for Premier League side Aston Villa to win him over.
Asensio told PSG’s official website that he was looking forward to the new season and would work with his new teammates to achieve the club’s goals.
“It’s a privilege to be part of this great club. I’m looking forward to joining my new teammates and working with them to achieve some great goals.” Asensio said.
Asensio spent seven years with Real Madrid where he won 17 major trophies including three Champions Leagues, three La Liga titles, four Club World Cups, three European Super Cups, three Spanish Super Cups and one Copa del Rey.
