Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola believes it’s only a matter of time until Manchester City win the UEFA Champions League.
The Spanish coach said this on Tuesday evening ahead of the Citizens game with 14-time UCL champions Real Madrid.
This is a repeat of last season’s semi-final after City lost 6-5 on aggregate to Los Blacos in thrilling ties.
“We arrived here last season with encouragement to get to the final,” said Guardiola
“We played really good in both games, but it was not enough. But what happened in the past is the past. We are not here for revenge. It’s just another opportunity.
“As much as we are here, one day we will get it. One day we will reach the final and we will win it. We come here to do this this season.
“Last season we also came here to reach the final and win it. But it didn’t happen because we played against Real Madrid and in this competition they know exactly what they have to do. As much as we play against them or the other top teams in Europe, much closer we will be.”
Man City’s best performance in the Champions League came in 2011 when they lost to Chelsea 1-0 in the final at Portugal’s Estadio do Dragao Stadium.
This season, they are still on the course of winning a historical treble as they are top the Premier League log with four games to go and are also in the FA Cup final, where they will face rivals Manchester United.
If Pep helps City win the Champions League, it will be his third UCL title as a coach after having winning it twice with Barcelona.
