Pep Guardiola has revealed his content with the Manchester City dressing room following City’s convincing 4-1 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.
Man City ran riot against the relegation threatened Bournemouth, with goals coming from Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and an own goal from Chris Mepham.
That goal was Premier League debutant Haaland’s 27th league goal. It was a record-breaking goal as the Norwegian overtook Sergio Aguero as City’s player with the most Premier League goals scored in a single season.
It was victory needed to respond to Arsenal’s slim win over Leicester City. Mikel Arteta’s boys had stretched the lead at the top of the table to five points, but with that comfortable win, City ensured the gap stayed at two points.
Speaking after the game, Guardiola said: “I’m very pleased with what I’m seeing every day. The mood of the locker room is exceptional, the training sessions are really, really good. Everyone is helping each other.
“Today we came here and behaved in the way we behaved. It made me feel we still have the desire to try and to try. We will try to fight for this Premier League, I don’t have any doubts.”
Man City would be the summit dwellers right now had they not fumbled against Nottingham Forest last weekend.
City who have won four of the last five league titles beat Arsenal 3-1 to dethrone the Gunners from the top of the table, but a frustrating one all draw at Forest coupled with Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Aston Villa last week saw the Citizens pushed back to the second position.
It was a disappointing game, but one they certainly forgot quickly. City return to action against Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium on 4th March.
