Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola lauded his team after a stunning comeback victory over West Ham United on Saturday evening.
Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland scored three second half goals to help the Citizens respond to James Ward-Prowse opener for West Ham in the first half, and consequently extend their 100% run in the Premier League this season.
Despite not having a couple of senior players due to injuries, Pep Guardiola says his team created so many chances in 90 minutes against a team that was set-up so deep to deny them.
Jack Grealish, Mateo Kovacic, John Stones and Kevin De Bruyen were all absent from this game due to injuries.
“We made so many chances in 90 minutes against a team that sits so deep – I’m so incredibly proud of my team,” Guardiola said after the game.
“It’s a great win for us with all the injury problems we have within our squad.
“We spoke at half-time because we were really, really good in the first half and in the second at times we were lucky and we had to be patient and wait for our chances, but it was really good the way we played.”
This game was Guardiola’s first game back in the dugout since he underwent a minor back surgery in Barcelona last month.
Guardiola and his charges will now turn their focus to Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League game against Crvena Zvezda before facing Nottingham Forest next Saturday – with both these two games played at City’s fortress Etihad Stadium.
