Mauricio Pochettino will be targeting his second Premier League victory of the season on Sunday as his Chelsea troops travel to the Vitality Stadium to take on winless Bournemouth.
The Blues head into this game after having garnered only one victory in their opening four games- a 3-0 victory over Luton Town at home last month.
The other point that Chelsea has collected this season happened on match day one when they drew one all with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
They will face Andoni Iraola’s side on Sunday who are desperate for their first victory this season after having lost twice and drawn as many.
Before they headed into the International break, Chelsea suffered a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest while Bournemouth drew 2-2 with Brentford.
A win for Chelsea will potentially lift them up from the 13th position to eighth while Bournemouth would move above Chelsea if they beat them.
Team News
Bournemouth will be without Tyler Adams (thigh), Alex Scott (knee), Ryan Fredericks (calf) and Emiliano Marcondes (foot), who are all still out with injuries.
Dango Ouattara has shaken off an ankle concern and he is ready to play while deadline day signing Luis Sinisterra could make his debut.
For Pochettino, he will be without Christopher Nkunku (knee), Romeo Lavia (ankle), Recce James (knee) and the trio of knee victims in Carney Chukwuemeka, Wesley Fofana and Marcus Bettinelli.
Trevor Chalobah, Benoit Badiashile and Armando Broja are also out despite having all returned to team training earlier this week.
Match Stats
Chelsea have won only two of their last 16 Premier League games and one of those triumphs was a 3-1 win over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium back in May, which extended the Blues’ victorious streak over their South Coast foes to three contests.
Bournemouth have lost four of their six Premier League home fixtures versus Chelsea, with their only win being 4-0 in January 2019.
Chelsea did the double over Bournemouth last season, including a 3-1 win at the Vitality Stadium in May – their only triumph in the final 12 league games of the campaign.
Chelsea have lost their last three away games in the Premier League. They haven’t suffered four top-flight away defeats in a row since a run of five from October to December 2000.
The Blues can lose both of their opening two away fixtures of a league season for the first time since 1990.
Raheem Sterling and Mohamed Salah are the nine-goal joint-leading Premier League scorers versus Bournemouth.
Mauricio Pochettino is currently winless in 13 away matches in the Premier League – a run that stretches back to February 2019 when he was in charge of Tottenham.
What was said by both managers before the game
“I want to win. We want to win. The players need to feel that pressure. It’s too early to give up or not achieve the objectives we set at the beginning. It’s about keeping going and believing.” Mauricio Pochettino said while addressing the media on Friday.
“He (Pochettino) was a very good player playing for Espanyol, for PSG,” Iraola told the Bournemouth Echo before adding “But this is the Premier League. Every week you’re facing top level players, top level coaches and now it’s our turn at home and we want to give them a really tough game.”
