Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Sunday at Anfield is a result super important to the Gunners, Jurgen Klopp has said.
Arsenal took a 2-1 lead to the halftime break after Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus scoring for Mikel Arteta’s team and Mohammed Salah halving the deficit, but were made to leave Anfield with only a point after Roberto Firmino struck in the evening of the game.
According to Klopp- the Liverpool boss, it was a point gained for Arsenal rather than three lost. Speaking to SkySports after the game, Klopp said;
“It’s a point and a good reaction from the two goals we conceded, that’s positive but I’m caught in between. I have no problem with drawing and for Arsenal, it’s a super important point because if you draw these kinds of games, you’ve got a good chance to become champions.
“You cannot always be super, super, super convincing. They were good but they would agree they could or should have lost this game today. They didn’t so the point is probably better for them.”
Klopp’s opposite number Arteta couldn’t agree more. He termed the outcome a ‘fair’ result.
“We lost control after half time, lost far too many simple balls and it became a very open and chaotic game which they love.
“They could have scored three or four, missed a penalty and Aaron (Ramsdale) made a couple of great saves. But we had some big breakaways and could have scored two or three. In the end, the result is fair.”
The draw left Arsenal top of the table, but they are now just six points ahead of title rivals Manchester City who have a game in hand and who they play on April 26 at the Etihad stadium.
For Liverpool, the draw leaves them in the eighth position twelve points away from the fourth position currently occupied by Manchester United.
