Ange Postecoglou’s era at Tottenham begins in losing fashion as his side got beaten 3-2 by West Ham in pre-season game in Perth.
Despite naming a strong lineup that included Harry Kane on his visit back in his home country, Postecoglou saw his side go into the break two goals down, as headers from Danny Ings and Divin Mubama made Spurs pay for their bad set-piece defending.
Before conceding, Spurs had some big chances to break the deadlock, but Cristian Romero, Oliver Skipp, Yves Bissouma and new recruit Manor Solomon all failed to convert.
At the break, Postecoglou changed the entire starting lineup. Giovanni Lo Celso pulled a goal back for Spurs as he volleyed past Lukas Fabianski, before an equaliser came minutes later from youngster Destiny Udogie, who headed in to the far corner.
Having levelled matters, Spurs looked destined to find the winner as they continued creating chance after chance at regular intervals.
But it was at the other end that the goal came from. Pablo Fornals set through Gianluca Scamacca, who made no mistake to finish off and win the game for West Ham.
The Hammers have now won all three of their games in pre-season after having earlier beaten Boreham Wood 4-1 before oozing past Perth Glory 6-2.
For Spurs, they will play Leicester City next on Sunday before batting Lion City Sailors next Wednesday.
West Ham will play in the UEFA Europa League this upcoming season after having won the UEFA Conference League, while Spurs won’t play in any European competition after having finished eighth on the log last season
