Brentford subjected Frank Lampard to his fifth successive loss since his return to Chelsea on a managerial Interim basis.
This after the Bees defeated the Blues 2-0 in a Premier League game played at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday courtesy of a Cesar Azpilicueta own goal and Bryan Mbuemo’s strike.
With 36 minutes into the game, Azpilicueta was unlucky to put the ball into his own net to gift Brentford the lead despite Chelsea having dominated most of the proceedings in the opening half.
The skipper saw Zanka’s header bounce off him to go past Kepa and into the back of the net.
12 minutes from the end of the game, Mbuemo put the final nail in Chelsea’s coffin with a wonderful sole strike after making a brilliant run to beat off his markers and shot at goal past the Chelsea’s goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalanga.
Before Brentford scored their second though, Chelsea were the better side and created several chances to level matters but failed to beat the Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.
Second half substitute Pierre Aubameyang had three attempts which were so weak to trouble Raya while also Kante sent his low drive narrowly wide.
With the defeat, Chelsea are now winless in eight games and have lost their last five games in all competitions. They have now lost all their five games under Lampard this season.
They stay sited in 11th position with just 39 points in 32 games and will play Arsenal next week.
For Brentford, they enlightened their hopes of European qualification as they move up to ninth position with 47 points in 33 games.
