Bruno Fernandes scored the all important goal for Manchester United as they narrowly defeated Aston Villa at Old Trafford.
Bruno’s goal came in the 39th minutes after his deflected effort went past Emilano Martinez, who had initially pushed away Marcus Rashford’s attempt.
Villa came close to levelling matters late on in the game, but Victor Lidelof made a goal-line clearance to the disadvantage of Douglas Luiz.
Before Fernandes scored ,United had several attempts to break the deadlock but failed to beat Martinez.
The Argentinian goalkeeper saved Rashford and Jadon Sancho’s effort before he saw Casemiro’s rattle the crossbar.
Villa dominated the closing half but United held on to secure the vital hard-fought victory.
The Erik Ten Hag’s side have now strengthen their grip on a top-four place as they are now on 63 points, nine points ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur. They also end Villa’s 10-match unbeaten run in the process.
For Villa, they remain sixth with 54 points with four games left to end the season.
United will play Brighton and Hove Albion in their next game on Thursday while Villa will battle relegation-threatened Wolves.
