Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery has beaten off competition from Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola and Newcastle’s Eddie Howe to win the Premier League Manager of the Month for April.
Emery was announced and revealed as the winner by the organizers on Friday morning after votes from fans were combined with those of a panel of football experts.
Emery helped Aston Villa move to sixth on the log in April after securing five wins in his seven games in the month, and that included victories over Newcastle (3-0) and Chelsea (2-0).
The Spaniard becomes the first Aston Villa head coach to win the award since Dean Smith in December 2020, while it is Villa’s first Premier League monthly award of any kind since Danny Ings won August 2021’s Budweiser Goal of the Month.
Emery and Aston Villa currently sit eighth on the Premier League log and will play Tottenham Hotspur next on Saturday, before battling Liverpool and Brighton and Hove Albion to end their season.
Arterta has won the most manager of the month Awards this season with four in eight.
In the Awards history, Pep Guardiola is the only manager in Premier League history to have won this award in four successive months while Jurgen Klopp is the only manager to win this award five times in a season.
