After seven games, Frank Lampard has finally secured his first victory back as Chelsea interim boss.
This is after the Blues defeated Bournemouth 3-1 in a game played at Vitality Stadium on Saturday.
Conor Gallagher, Joao Felix and Benoit Badiashile found the back of net for Chelsea to ensure Lampard secured his first victory since he replaced Graham Potter in March.
Gallagher opened the scoring for the Blues while Badiashile and Felix netted in the last quarter of the game to seal Chelsea’s victory after Mathias Vinha had leveled up matters for the Cherries.
Bournemouth had the game’s first attempt at goal, with Vinha testing Kepa who was up for the task.
In the 10th minutes , Chelsea went ahead through Gallagher’s fine header following a Ngolo Kante’s cross.
Chelsea almost grabbed a second soon afterwards but defender Trevor Chalobah failed to beat goalkeeper Neto after being fed through by Enzo Fernandes.
In the 22 minute on the other end, Bournemouth equalised after brilliant interplay between Ryan Christie and Dominic Solanke to set Vinha up on the edge of the area. The Uruguayan curled the ball beyond Kepa and into the back of the net to level matters.
Noni Madueke had a couple of chances to restore Chelsea’s advantage before break, but the youngster failed to find the back of the net. He first dragged his effort into the side-net before his next shot was grabbed easily by Neto.
A few minutes after the break, Ryan Christie came close to putting Bournemouth ahead but he agonizingly saw his header over Kepa’s bar.
Solanke was also denied by an excellent tackle by Thiago Silva who recovered fast to deny the Englishman.
Few minutes later, Kepa also made a brilliant stop to deny Vinha from getting his and Bournemouth’s second.
Chelsea’s first goalscoring attempts in the second half came after the 70 minute when Kai Havertz was found unmarked in the box by an excellent Hakim Ziyech cross, unfortunately the German failed to connect well with his head.
With eight minutes left on the close, Chelsea finally got their second through Badiashile, who volley in a well-taken Ziyech freekick to restore the blues’ advantage.
Less than five minutes after that Badiashile goal, Chelsea got their third of the goal with Felix finishing off first-time after being set up by Raheem Sterling.
With the victory, Chelsea move back to 10th position on the log with 42 points in 34 games. For Lampard, he has secured his second victory as coach in 21 games.
The Blues will play Nottingham Forrest next at home next Saturday.
