Portuguese football manager Jose Mourinho has emerged as PSG’s number one target to become their manager next season as Christopher Galtier’s replacement, according to several reports from France and Italy.
Mourinho is currently having a successful spell in Italy as A.S. Roma’s head coach where he is currently third on the Serie A table and in a firm position to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Roma last played Champions League football in the 2018/19 season when they were eliminated at the Round of 16 stage, but Mourinho guided them last season to a Europa Conference League trophy- their first major European trophy.
It is this glory that has made PSG want to have Mourinho in their dugout next season as they seek European glory of their own that has eluded them since their establishment in 1970 even after investing millions of Euros in player and staff recruitment for several seasons now.
Whereas “The Special One” has improved fortunes at Roma during his almost two-year spell, he has complained about the club’s limited financial backing to fund his transfer budget but all that would be history should he make the move to a club that is as oiled as PSG operating on barely unlimited budget.
According to Football Italia, Mourinho, who worked with PSG’s Football Advisor Luis Campos at Real Madrid, is open to talks with the French club who already have a star-studded squad that only needs polishing by a top manager to go all the way and win the Champions League.
PSG came close to winning their first-ever Champions League trophy in 2020 under Thomas Tuchel and were eliminated by Bayern Munich in the last 16 this season, but Jose Mourinho has won the Champions League with FC Porto and Inter Milan, as well as other European trophies.
