Raheem Sterling was the star man on Friday night as Mauricio Pochettino secured a first competitive victory as a Chelsea boss after defeating Luton 3-0.
Sterling netted a brace and made an assist for Nicholas Jackson. The former Man City and Liverpool forward got his first goal in the 17th minute when he received the ball on the right to dazzle through three Luton players and finish past the goalkeeper.
He doubled the lead just after the hour mark with a nice finish from close range following Malo Gusto cross.
Few minutes afterwards, Sterling got involved again for Chelsea’s third as he sent in a low cross to Jackson, who tapped in at far post for his first goal for the club.
Chelsea could have won the game by a wider margin, but were wasteful and unlucky upfront . Ben Chilwell refused to shoot when he was through on goal while Enzo Fernandez, Jackson and Sterling failed to find the target from their brilliant chances.
For Luton, their best chances to get a goal fell to Ryan Giles who failed to beat Roberto Sanchez when the game was still 1-0.
Aside from that, Luton failed to find another clear chance to score as they spent more time sitting at the back defending and trying to break down Chelsea’s attacks.
With those three goals, Chelsea now secure their first victory under Pochettino, having collectes just a point in their first two games.
Pochettino’s side will play Wimbledon AFC in their next game in the EFL Cup.
For Luton Town, their search for the first League points continues after having also lost their opener to Brighton and Hove Albion 13 days ago.
