The difference between Chelsea and West Ham on Sunday at London Stadium was that the Hammers were ruthless in front of goal.
From their six shots on target, West Ham scored three goals to defeat Chelsea 3-1, despite the Blues having dominated and enjoying a 76% share of the ball.
Raheem Sterling, one of the Chelsea players who was impressive throughout the game was left frustrated after the match as he thought they could have gotten the three points so easily if they had taken their chances.
“It’s difficult one to take for everyone,” Sterling told the Chelsea website
“You have to take your chances. In the Premier League it will come back to haunt you. They got momentum with the crowd.
“We dominated large periods of the game and had good opportunities. It was a hard step to take to get back in, but I still thought we had a good go at it, but we didn’t do what we needed to do.
“You could see us dominating the game, physically we are better,’ added Sterling. We just need to cut out some of the stuff we played and keep building. Even though we lost, there were times we played some good football. It’s stepping stones.’
Despite him being on the losing side, Sterling was named the EPL Player of the match for his sublime performance throughout the game. He had six successive take-ones, won a penalty (which was missed by Enzo) and was a constant threat for Chelsea on the right as he easily got past his markers to threateningly cross in.
Sterling and his Chelsea side will be back in action on Friday when they host Luton Town at Stamford Bridge in their third Premier League game of the 2023/24 season.
