Defender Raphael Varane scored a late header to help Manchester United overcome Wolverhampton Wanderers in their Premier League opener.
Varane’s goal came in the 76th minute of the game after he met Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s cross to head home into an open goal from close range, and consequently helped United win the game 1-0.
Before that goal, Wolves were the better side throughout the game as they played with intensity and aggression to trouble United.
In the first half, Matheus Cunha and Pablo Sarabia both shot narrowly wide
While in the second half before Varane scored, Cunha rattled the crossbar and Pedro Neto shot to Andre Onana.
Despite not playing well, United also had chances before they scored and got denied by Jose Sa.
The Portuguese goalkeeper stopped Marcus Rashford shot early on in the opening half before also denying Antony before the break.
When Antony got past Sa in the 53rd minute, his attempt was cleared off the line by Craig Dawson.
United had to withstand a late barrage from Wolves, who created chance after chance in order to get the equalizer.
Substitute Fabio Silva was denied by Onana a couple of times, before United got lucky late on in injury time after Onana clattered into Sasa Kalajdzic inside the area. VAR looked at that incident for a couple of seconds and decided it wasn’t a penalty.
After an ugly win, United will now gear up to face Tottenham Hotspurs away from home next Saturday, while beaten Wolves will host Brighton and Hove Albion at Molineux.
