It has been widely reported that Real Madrid are close to finalizing a move for midfielder Jude Bellingham from German side Borussia Dortmund after their biggest opponent for the England star Liverpool pulled out.
According to Spanish sports outlet SER Depotivos, Real Madrid’s salary proposal in a six-year contract to Bellingham is so big that it will make him the second highest-paid footballer at Santiago Bernabeu only behind Eden Hazard.
It is a proposal they are confident will entice the 19-year-old and secure his signature. Hazard currently earns £384,000 per week so Bellingham will get close to that.
Other details of the proposed contract say that Bellinghan will have a £875 million (€1 billion) release clause should any other club want to take him away from Real Madrid before his contract expires.
Madrid have not submitted a formal bid to Dortmund for Bellingham yet, but it the same report that says that Los Blancos are preparing one that’s definitely more than £100 million and they expect the German side to negotiate within that region.
It is worth noting that Bellingham’s contract with Borussia Dortmund runs until June 2025 as he signed a five-year contract with them after joining from Birmingham City aged just 17 for £20 million in 2020. His value has exploded since then.
According to Football Espana, Real Madrid chief scout Juni Calafat met Bellingham’s father Mark Bellingham who also doubles as his agent in London sometime in March to express the club’s interest in the player and discuss contract details.
It is just a matter of time until the teenager puts pen to paper and move to the Spanish capital.
