Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr is set to be sidelined for a lengthy period than was anticipated after he sustained a thigh injury in the club’s 1-0 win over Celta Vigo last Friday night.
Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti said at full-time that Vinicius Jr would likely sit out his side’s match against Getafe this Saturday. However, he played down the seriousness of the injury and expected him to return after the international break.
“Vinicius has had a discomfort in the first half and we changed him, in the next few hours we will know what he has. He wanted to continue, so I don’t think it was something very serious. He tried, it bothered him a little bit and I changed him.” Ancelotti said, as quoted by The Athletic.
After a thorough assessment on Saturday, it was determined that the injury would rule out the Brazilian attacker for longer than expected. He underwent further examinations on Sunday and produced the same results.
According to sources in Madrid, Vinicius will have a scan on Monday with an expected period of absence of not less than one month.
This means that he will not be able to play against Getafe, Real Sociedad, and Atlético de Madrid in La Liga. He will also most likely sit out the first Champions League match.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) have been informed about the situation. Brazil play Bolivia on September 8 and Peru on September 12 during the international break.
