The Premier League remains the richest and most valuable football league in the world. Their revenue is generated through sponsorships, broadcasting rights, and endorsements and it is distributed to the 20 clubs who in turn spend it through player transfers and salaries.
As such, the Premier League boasts of some of the highest-paid footballers in the world and French newspaper L’Equipe has revealed the top five in the Premier League this season, and as you might have guessed right, big spenders Manchester City stars dominate the list.
This list is ranked by salary alone and other sources of players’ income like endorsements, bonuses. Iimage rights are not included.
Kevin De Bruyne
The Belgian playmaker takes home a staggering £425,000 per week at Manchester City, the most by any player in the Premier League. De Bruyne has rewarded his bosses with four Premier League titles so far, although delivering the Champions League would make his salary worth it.
Erling Haaland
According to L’Equipe, the Norwegian marksman earns £402,250 a week at Manchester City, just a few thousand pounds than his team-mate De Bruyne. Haaland has scored an impressive 42 goals for Manchester City so far while breaking and setting new records along the way. His statistics justify his fat paycheck in all ways.
However, it is worth noting that Haaland’s bonuses at Manchester City take his weekly earnings to way over £860,000. Yes, now you know why he scores those goals like his life depends on it.
David De Gea
David De Gea is currently the longest-serving player at Manchester United and has been on top of his game the most time since his arrival at Old Trafford. His bosses are pleased with his services so they pay him a whopping £402,250 every seven days.
De Gea has kept 141 cleans sheets in the Premier League. Only Petr Cech, David James, and Mark Schwarzer have kept more.
Mohammed Salah
All-time Premier League top scorer for Liverpool Mohammed Salah has torn the league apart and produced incredible moments for The Reds, including helping them win the first Premier League title by scoring 19 goals and assisting 10 in the 2019/20 season. For all this and more, Liverpool pays the Egyptian star £373,750 a week, according to the French publication.
Jadon Sancho
Of all the players on this list, it is Jadon Sancho that has not yet justified his fat paycheck. The England international arrived at Manchester United after proving himself in Germany with Borussia Dortmund, and United gave him a £373750-a-week contract making him the fifth highest-paid player in the Premier League. Sancho’s contract runs until June 2026 so he still has time to justify his paycheck.
