Saudi Arabian Pro League club Al Ittihad are still in the market hunting more elite players to add to their growing star squad.
The latest player to be on the Al Ittihad’s radar is Brazilian midfielder Fabinho, who currently plays for Liverpool in England.
Reports say that the club from the oil-rich Saudi Arabia is preparing a bid worth £40 million for the player and a decision for the deal is expected to move quickly.
Liverpool would be glad to receive the planned fee but want to first sign Fabinho’s replacement, and Southampton’s Romeo Lavia is one of the players under consideration by Manager Jurgen Klopp and his scouts.
Fabinho’s contract expires at the end of the 2025/26 season so he still has three years remaining but Liverpool are refreshing their midfield this summer transfer window as evidenced by the signings of Alexis Mac Allister of Brighton and Hove Albion and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.
If the deal goes through, Fabinho will join midfielders James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who already left Liverpool after the 2022/23 season ended when their contracts expired. 20-year-old Fabio Carvalho also joined RB Leipzig on a season-long loan.
Fabinho joined Liverpool in the summer of 2018 from French Ligue 1 side Monaco and has made 219 appearances and scored 11 goals in all competitions. Last season, Fabinho was an important part of Klopp’s shaky team, making 49 appearances.
