Al Hilal have reportedly officially submitted their proposal to Lionel Messi and his agent for a contract that will see him earn a staggering £350 million a year should he make the transfer to their club at the end of this season.
Messi currently earns $41 million a year at French giants PSG but his contract expires at the end of this season and there have been talks of an extension amid interest from elsewhere.
Al Hilal’s proposal, if it succeeds, will see Messi play with long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo in the same league for the second time since their time in Laliga , but earning almost double what the Portuguese star makes at Al Nassr. The two players went head-to-head for 10 years in Spain, a period highly dubbed the most competitive individual rivalry in football history.
Al Hilal are the most successful club in Saudi Pro League with 18 trophies but are currently sitting third on the table, seven points from Ronaldo’s Al Nassr in second and they believe adding Messi to their attack would help them compete more both domestically and on the continent.
Although Al Hilal’s offer is mouth-watering, sources close to the Argentina captain say that if he doesn’t extend with PSG, Messi’s priority is to stay in Europe with former club Barcelona hugely interested in bringing back their greatest player next season.
Messi left Barcelona at the end of the 2020/21 season as the club looked to trim the wage bill that almost ran them bankrupt.
