Midfielder Sergio Busquets has announced he will leave Barcelona at the end of the end of the season
The Barcelona captain, who has spent 18 years at the club announced this decision on Wednesday via Social media in an emotional video.
“Although it has not been an easy decision, I think the time has come,” Busquets said.
“It has been an unforgettable journey. I always dreamed of playing with this shirt and at this stadium. Reality has exceeded all my dreams.
“It has been an honour, a dream, a source of pride, and it meant everything to defend and represent this badge for so many years.
“But everything has a beginning and an end. I want to thank all the people who made this possible, from the first day to the last.”
The 34-year old joined Barcelona in 2005 as a youth player and made his first-team debut in 2008 under Pep Guardiola when the Catalans played Racing Santander in a league game.
Since then, he has been a mainstay at Barcelona and has played the third-most games in the club’s history (718)- scoring 18 goals and providing 40 assists.
He has won eight La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues, Seven Copa Del Reys and seven Spanish Super Cups in that period.
The defensive midfielder also has won three European Super Cups and three Club World Cups in his 18-years at the club.
Furthermore, the Spanish midfielder has played in more classicos than any other player with 48 games to his name.
Busquets retired from international football in December after having won the 2010 World Cup and 2012 European Championship with Spain.
