Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic was left ruing his team’s ‘sloppy’ defending after dropping points in an exciting 2-2 draw against Schalke in the Revierderby on Saturday.
Dortmund twice took the lead, but they were as many times pegged back! Defender Nico Schlotterbeck who was scoring his fourth goal of the season netted the first goal, but in between that goal and Dortmund’s second scored by Raphael Guerreiro, Marius Bulter had netted an equalizer.
Kenan Karaman then responded to the Portuguese’s goal with his own as the two neighbors settled for a draw.
It was a result that ended Dortmund’s winning run of nine games in the league. After the game, a disappointed Terzic in a post match interview describes how they lost the game.
“We played some really good stuff in the first half – we dominated and created a lot of chances. In the second half, we opened the door for them again. We lost a lot of stupid balls and allowed them to attack us on transitions.
“We had the lead twice but let them back in by losing sloppy balls and not stopping crosses. That’s how they came back into the game.”
Prior to the start of this week, Dortmund had won eleven games in a row in all competitions, but that unblemished run was brought to an end by Chelsea who ejected the side from the Champions League. They will be hoping that was not the start of them falling apart.
They went into Saturday’s game level on points with table toppers Bayern Munich, but after the Bavarian’s 5-3 win over Augsburg, they are now two points behind.
They play Koln next in the league.
