Tottenham Hotspur have asked Spanish side Barcelona to name their price for midfielder Franck Kessie after knowing that they are ready to let him leave in the summer.
Kessie joined Barcelona from AC Milan last summer after winning the Italian Serie A, and he is on the verge of adding the Spanish La Liga to his trophy cabinet.
However, the 26-year-old Ivorian has starved of playing minutes at Camp Nou where he has played 24 matches but started only seven.
Although Kessie’s contract with Barcelona is still valid until June 2026, a move to Tottenham favours both parties as Tottenham could give him more playing time in their shaky midfield, while Barcelona will get the much-needed money due to their financial situation.
Barcelona signed Kessie as a free agent last summer but are set to ask for over £25 million from Tottenham when the time for bidding comes.
There is also interest from Italy for the Ivorian, with Inter Milan also monitoring his situation but Barcelona are more interested in the player going to Tottenham who could offer more cash than Inter Milan.
Kessie was already prepared to leave Barcelona in the January transfer window but the club did not want to negotiate his departure because they could not register his replacement, again, due to their poor financial situation.
Tottenham chances of qualifying for the Champions League still hang in the balance as they currently sit sixth on the Premier League table with six points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, even after playing a game more.
