Graham Potter and Chelsea’s woes in the Premier League this season continue following their 2-0 defeat to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The quiet first half ended goalless at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but no sooner had the game resumed than the hosts broke the deadlock through Olivier Skipp who was scoring his first goal for the club.
Tottenham all-time top scorer Harry Kane added salt to injury when he netted the second in the 82nd minute to seal the goods for Spurs as they consolidated their fourth place in the league.
Despite spending big in the January transfer window, Chelsea are still struggling with finding goals. Mykhailo Mudryk, Joao Felix and Enzo Fernandez are all attacking players acquired in Jan, but the Blues are yet to see a change in fortune.
With this game being their last in February, it means Chelsea have seen out the month with only one goal scored. Felix will definitely take home the goal of the month award as he scored the aforementioned goal.
This result means that Chelsea’s search for a second win this year continues. The last time Potter’s team tasted victory was in January 15th and it came against Crystal Palace. Chelsea have since suffered with goalless draws mostly dominating their proceedings.
Hakim Ziyech had seen a straight red card in this game, but thanks to VAR, the card was downgraded to yellow.
Chelsea remain tenth in the league, but they are now 14 points shy of the fourth spot which is currently occupied by Spurs. Their chances of playing in the Champions League next season grow slimmer each passing day. And the pressure on Potter keeps mounting.
This is Chelsea’s ninth loss of the season. They have won fewer games (eight) than they have lost. Under Potter, Chelsea have managed to register just five league wins.
