English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach.
Postecoglou has signed a four-year deal and will officially start work on July 1, ending Spur’s 72-day search for Antonio Conte’s replacement.
“Now that the season and all domestic cup competitions have concluded, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as our new first team Head coach.” part of the statement released by Spurs read on their website.
The Australian joins the club after a successful season in Scotland where he won a domestic treble, winning the Scottish Premiership, Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup
It’s reported that Spurs have paid Celtics around £5 million in compensation for the manager who has won five of six domestic trophies available since he moved to Scotland in 2021.
The 57-year old becomes the first Australian to manage in the Premier League and this is his first job in one of Europe’s top five League, having spent most of his career in Australia and Japan.
He also coached Australian senior national team between 2013 and 2017. He guided them to both 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cup and won the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.
Postecoglou’s backroom team has not been confirmed by the club, but it’s highly likely that John Kennedy, his assistant at Celtic, will join him.
Spurs will not play in Europe next season as they finished eighth on the Premier League log with 60 points in their 38 games.
