Trent Alexander-Arnold struck late on to help Liverpool earn a 1-1 draw against Man City in an entertaining top-of-table clash at Etihad Stadium.
Arnold’s goal cancelled out Erling Haaland’s opener for City who dropped two valuable points in the title race .
Haaland opened the scoring in the 27th minute when he collected Nathan Ake’s pass to drill a low strike into the bottom corner following Alisson Becker’s miss kicked clearance
This goal saw the Norwegian became the fastest player in history to plunder 50 Premier League goals. Haaland achieved this feat in just 48 matches to break Andrew Cole’s previous record of 50 in 65 outings.
After Haaland scored, Liverpool contributed to a lively and even first half with Darwin Nunez failing to make the most of a series of good openings, including one header that was well saved by Ederson.
Despite City creating the better chances in the second half, Arnold silenced the home crowd 10 minutes from time when he rifled a sublime low shot past Ederson and into fhe far corner to help Liverpool be level and consequently earn a share of the spoils despite a late scare from Haaland, who agnozingly failed to find the target from his header.
The result means City fail to equal the English top-flight record of 24 straight home wins in all competitions, set by Sunderland in the 1890s, and they remain just the one point ahead of the second-placed Liverpool with the rest of the weekend’s top-flight fixtures to come.
Next up, Man City host RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League before entertaining Tottenham on Sunday. Liverpool are at home to LASK in the UEFA Europa League and then welcome Fulham to Anfield on Sunday.
