Victor Osimhen’s current form has made him one of the most prolific goal-scorers in Europe and has attracted the attention of several clubs that are ready to splash big cash to secure his signature in the summer transfer window.
One such club is Manchester United, who, according to Daily Mail, are preparing a deal worth £107 million that they think will persuade Napoli to sell their star player at the end of the 2022/23 season.
They will need more than that, if the words of Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis are to go by. According to German sports outlet Bild, De Laurentiis has insisted that the in-form Osimhen is not for sale under any circumstances, and that thought has not even crossed their minds.
“I can tell you that Osimhen is not for sale. Our players are in demand, but I don’t have to sell anyone,” De Laurentiis said adding that Napoli don’t have any debts that would force them to sell their in-demand players to pay them off.
Victor Osimhen has scored 16 goals in 17 appearances in the Italian Serie A for Napoli season so far, and his goals have been instrumental in putting his club in pole position to win the league title this season, something they have not done since 1990. Napoli are currently 13 points clear of second-placed Inter Milan.
The 24-year-old marksman could also become the first African player to win the Italian Serie A golden boot but before he achieves that, AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho has already said the Nigerian is currently at the same level as Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, who won Mourinho back to back Premier League titles in 2005 and 2006.
Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille in 2020 for £62.4 million but his value has almost doubled, having scored 45 goals in 83 matches for the Italian side. Big spenders Chelsea, who are struggling to score goals, could join the race to sign Osimhen in the summer.
