Leeds United surprised many on Monday when they made the decision to relieve their head coach Jesse Marsch of his duties.
The American was sacked after one year on the Job! While the Peacocks are enduring a terrible run of form that has seen them languish in the 17th position in the table standings, many will argue that the decision undertaken was untimely and perhaps not fair considering the fact that they have two important games against Manchester United in space of four days.
Considering how Marsch approaches big games like this one; the mentality he instills in his teams makes them so competitive and difficult to break down as we witnessed against Arsenal when they dominated the Gunners despite the loss in the first round.
The Elland road outfit is a high possessing team so who knows? They might stand a chance against a Manchester United side that is short of depth in midfield following the suspension of Casemiro who starts to serve a three match ban in this game.
The Brazilian midfielder has played an integral part for the Red Devils since his arrival, but the straight red card he received for grabbing Will Hughes will see him miss this game and the reverse fixture on Sunday at Elland road as well as the home fixture against Leicester city on 19th February.
Erik Ten Hag will have to do without Christian Eriksen, Donny Van de Beek and Scott McTominay as well in his midfield.
One may argue that Leeds have been unlucky recently. They played well against Brentford but couldn’t find a breakthrough and when they faced Nottingham Forest, it was the same story.
The Whites had 70 percent ball possession,10 shots on target but lost the game 1-0 to a side that was restricted to only two shots on goal.
Leeds gave their all with so much energy for their manager but luck wasn’t on their side.
Ten Hag doesn’t believe that sacking managers gets football clubs better results as reported by Metro sport news. “It’s always sad if a manager is a colleague and gets sacked, in general I don’t believe in it that if you sack a manager you get better results.” Ten Hag said.
Ten Hag’s team will be hoping to extend their home winning streak to 14 wins. Marcel Sabitzer, a loanee from Bayern Munich is expected to start the game.
