Manchester United did not give their all against Tottenham Hotspur during the two side’s two all draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, United boss, Erik Ten has said.
Man United who were fresh from eliminating Brighton from the FA Cup to book their spot in the final took a comfortable lead into the break, but the Red Devils let it slip away as they were made to settle for a draw.
Jason Sancho and Marcus Rashford gave United a two-goal lead in the first half, but goals from Pedro Porro and Heung-Min Son ensured spoils were shared. While speaking to the media after the game, Ten Hag who claimed his side have the worst Premier League schedule this season said they didn’t give 100%.
“We have the worst schedule also in the Premier League, that will not change,” Ten Hag said when asked if their giving away the two goals was due to tiredness.
“You have to take that. You can’t use it as an excuse. The time is enough time to recover, so our players are in demand to be ready. Today they were not ready.
“We thought 90 per cent is enough, that’s why we gave balls away. And when you don’t do your jobs in positioning, you concede goals.
“It has to be [100 per cent]. You have to bring it every time. I know that they are not robots and it’s a tough schedule. But we can’t accept it when you are playing for Man Utd and you are wearing this shirt.
“You have to give [100 per cent] in every occasion, every game. And as a team, you have to manage the game, get the win, and that makes everyone happy and satisfied.”
That draw kept Man United in the fourth place with 60 points, two behind Newcastle, but they have a game in hand on Eddie Howie’s team.
For Tottenham, they remained placed fifth, six points behind United and level on points with seventh placed Aston Villa which reduces their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
