Arsenal have confirmed defender William Saliba has signed a new four-year contract that will commit him to the club until 2027.
The 22-year-old France international’s deal at Arsenal will reportedly see him earn over £10 million a year. There is no option to extend for a further year, and there is no release clause.
Saliba’s previous Arsenal contract was scheduled to expire at the end of next season on June 30, 2024, but the club have now tied him down for four more years warding off strong interest from other teams in the Premier League and abroad.
Arsenal’s Sporting Director Edu Gasper told Arsenal’s official website that Saliba is part of Arsenal’s vision and hopes he will be successful with the club for many years to come.
“William is part of our vision to keep our talented young players, who will hopefully be successful with us for many years to come so that we can grow and progress together,” Edu said, as quoted by arsenal.com.
Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta, who has been a central figure during talks with Saliba and his representatives for months prior to his new contract, said that the player proved how important he was to Arsenal last season and keeping him has been part of a long-term plan.
“To have William extend his contract with us was something we have wanted to do for a long time. William proved last season just how good and how important he is to our squad.
The ability he has at his young age of just 22 is exciting, and there is of course so much more room for development with any player at this stage of their career. We’re looking forward to continuing to work with William in the years to come,” Arteta said.
Saliba was part of the Arsenal starting line-up that challenged for the Premier League title last season and his injury that kept in out of the last 11 matches of the season cost Arsenal the title as the club’s defence became leaky and gave way for Manchester City to win it.
Saliba joins teammates Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli and Aaron Ramsdale who already signed new contracts with Arsenal in the last couple of months.
