Champions League holders Manchester City will be looking to bounce back from two successive domestic defeats when they travel to Germany for a Group G clash against RB Leipzig on Wednesday.

The Citizens and Die Roten Bullen currently sit joint top of their group after beating Red Star Belgrade and Young Boys respectively by a similar scoreline (3-1) in their opening games two weeks ago.

RB Leipzig have made an impressive start to the new season. They have won seven, drawn one, and lost just once in all competitions.

Their last match ended in a 2-2 draw against Bundesliga league holders Bayern Munich over the weekend.

City’s start to the season has been equally impressive. They had won all their matches until last week when they got ejected out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle in midweek and also losing 2-1 to Wolves over the weekend.

These two clubs meet in a repeat of last season’s round of 16 match. Leipzig will hope to avoid a repeat of what happened then as Man City won the two-legged contest with an astounding 8-1 on aggregates.

Die Roten Bullen will be seeking revenge against the reigning champions, who signed defender Joško Gvardiol from the German club in the summer.

Following Man City’s consecutive losses, Leipzig know a small chink in City’s armour has been exposed as it was the first time since January they were suffering back to back losses.

Pep Guardiola’s men will look to return to winning ways to avoid any kind of falter which could ultimately lead to loss of confidence.

Team news

Leipzig midfielder Kevin Kampl was forced off with a hip injury against Bayern; he is expected to sit out this tie. He joins Timo Werner (back), Dani Olmo, Willi Orban, and El Chadaille Bitshiabu (all knee) in the treatment room. Everyone else is available for selection.

As for Man City, Kevin De Bruyne (hamstring) remains sidelined, while John Stones (muscle) and Bernardo Silva (leg) are still doubtful with their fitness to be assessed ahead of kickoff.

Other players, including Rodri, who is serving a domestic suspension are available for selection.
