Former Chelsea and Brighton and Hove Albion manager Graham Potter has declined the opportunity to become Olympic Lyonnais manager.
The French Ligue 1 club made Potter their first choice to take over but the 48-year-old decided it is not the right time to move back into management.
Potter and his representatives reportedly met with Lyon hierarchy including club owner John Textor in the past couple of weeks but the Englishman decided to take his time.
Lyon are currently bottom of the Ligue 1 table but Textor is believed to have plans to turn the club’s fortunes around by investing heavily in the squad and facilities over the coming months and years.
After Potter’s refusal, Lyon will now turn their attention to current Lille boss Paulo Fonseca, who led Lille to a fifth-place finish last season and Julen Lopetegui, who most recently managed Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League and saved them from relegation. Lopetegui left Wolves last month.
Potter has been on the unemployment line since he was sacked by Chelsea in April after almost running the club into the relegation zone.
Potter was in charge at Chelsea for just 31 games even though he had signed a five-year contract last year after impressing with Brighton.
