Liverpool FC have completed the signing of Wataru Endo from VFB Stuttgart, the English club has confirmed.
The Japanese captain has put pen to paper on a long-term contract and becomes the Red’s third official signing of the summer after Alexis Mac Alister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
“I’m very happy right now and I’m so excited to join a big club in Liverpool. ” Said Endo.
“It feels amazing and this is my dream. It’s always [been] a dream to play [in the] Premier League and with one of the biggest clubs in the world. It’s a dream come true for me.”
“It’s going to be the first time that I play at Anfield. I can’t wait to play at Anfield in front of Liverpool fans.
“I play as a No.6 and I’m like a bit more [of a] defensive player. I think I can help this club defensively and I will have good organisation in the middle. I think that’s my job.
“I am very excited to join this club and I am looking forward to seeing you at Anfield!”
Endo joins Liverpool after having spent four seasons at Stuttgart where he made 133 appearances and scored 15 goals.
Before he joined the German side, he had previously played at Sint-Truidense in Belgium and Shonan Bellmare and Urawa Red Diamonds, both in Japan.
Endo has also been a regular with Japan at international level and featured at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Endo will take shirt number 3 at Liverpool which was previously worn by Fabinho, who departed the club for Saudi Arabia.
