Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo has agreed personal terms with Spanish La Liga side Barcelona.
Cancelo spent the second half of last season on loan at Bayern Munich after reportedly falling out with Man City manager Pep Guardiola.
After the end of the season, Bayern Munich said they were not willing to make Cancelo’s loan move permanent for a clause that was set at €70 million.
According to Mail Sport, Cancelo is set to leave Manchester City permanently after agreeing personal terms with Barcelona. It has also been revealed that Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez wanted to sign the 29-year-old in January.
Barcelona are cash-strapped at the moment but since they expect to receive €50 million from Ousmane Dembele’s transfer to Paris St-Germain (PSG), they want to use some of these funds to secure the services of the Cancelo.
It was reported yesterday that the club were in talks to sign the Portugal international, with Guardiola dismissing claims from Xavi that he had blocked a move to sign for the Spanish giants back in January. For all we know, Guardiola was, and still is, happy to let go of Cancelo this summer.
Cancelo joined Manchester City in 2019 and enjoyed relatively good game time at Etihad until January this year. He has also featured in some pre-season matches for the Cityzens.
