Joan Laporta has promised Barcelona will do everything possible to bring Lionel Messi back to the club this summer.

The Blaugrana President said this on Sunday evening after seeing his side capture the 2022/23 La Liga title.

“We will do everything we can to bring Leo Messi back to Barcelona.” Laporta said while speaking to Jijantes.

After the jubilant celebrations in Catalunya, Laporta, while speaking to RAC 1 further revealed that he is in contact with the Messi about the return.

“I spoke with Messi recently, we have a relationship with him. Messi is the best player in the world and any coach would want him in his team. He had some unpleasant incidents with the fans in Paris, I won’t disturb him right now. We exchanged some messages recently. Barca is Messi’s home and Barça can compete with Saudi Arabia and everyone.”

With Messi’s contract at PSG ending at the end of this season, Barcelona will compete with strong interests from MLS and the Middle East to get the deal for the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner in place.

Messi departed Camp Nou in 2021 as a free agent due to Barcelona’s financial difficulties which made it impossible for him to extend his contract.

He had spent 21 years with the club since arriving from Argentina as a teenager and was both the leading appearance-maker for the club as well as its record goal-scorer, scoring 672 goals in 778 games.

Lionel Messi achieved tremendous success, taking Barcelona to new heights. With him, the club won four Champions League trophies and 11 La Liga titles, among a whole host of other silverware.

The 35-year old has two major trophies with the Argentina National Team – the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2021 Copa America.
