Manchester United kept their hopes alive for the quadruple by ejecting championship outfit Reading to advance to the 5th round of the English Football Association (FA) Cup played on Saturday.

Regarding their previous form, the Royals were expected to give little resistance to the Red Devil’s maneuvers but alas ! That was not to be as they proved to be a hard nut to crack forcing the first half to end goalless.

However, Erik Ten Hag’s men always seemed like they had the game under control. Casemiro and Fred proved just that with their goals. Although Reading found the back of the net, it could only pass for a consolation.

That victory implied that only Man United remain in contention for a quadruple I.e, the FA Cup, Carabao, Europa and the Premier League.

In the FA where rivals Arsenal got eliminated by Manchester City and Liverpool who lost to high-flying Brighton & Hove Albion, United have high chances to advance. In the Carabao cup, Manchester United is one foot set into the final while in the premier league, they are only 11 points adrift of Arsenal, the league leaders. A date against Barcelona awaits in a Europa league play off .

But there’s still a long way to go. last season gave us some lessons to learn when Chelsea reached the last quarter of the season with four trophies on sight only to conclude the season empty handed, agonizingly losing the Carabao Cup to Liverpool which loss was followed by a Champions League quarter final exit. That defeat was inflicted on by Real Madrid who went on to win the trophy.

The Blues went on to lose the FA cup final to Liverpool, dashing all hopes of a possible quadruple. Can Manchester United surpass Liverpool which got 2 out of the possible 4 trophies last season? Time will tell.  Who knows? “Never say never”. The simple fact for now is; they remain the only Premiership club in pursuit of four trophies.
