In-form Napoli and Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen could be making a move away from the Italian Serie A to the Premier League sooner than expected.
News reaching us indicate that Osimhen has asked Nigerian team-mate Alex Iwobi about the Premier League and life in England in general.
Both players are with the Nigerian team for the qualifiers of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) that will be held in Ivory Coast next year, and Iwobi has revealed that they talked about the Premier League in their chats.
The Everton midfielder, who started his career with current league leaders Arsenal revealed this while appearing on the latest episode of The Beautiful Game Podcast when he was asked about Osimhen’s thoughts about the Premier League.
“He has asked. All of them ask. I am sure he probably has the ambition to play in the Premier League,” Iwobi answered.
This is not the first time the talk of Osimhen moving to the Premier League has surfaced. Early this month, the 24-year-old sat down in an interview with The Athletic and among other things, he said: “I’m working so hard to make sure that I achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League someday but, like I said, it’s a process and I just want to keep on this momentum and continue to do well.”
Osimhen’s 25 goals in all competitions have helped Napoli into becoming runaway leaders in the Italian Serie A, 19 points clear at the top of the table and are in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League.
It is no surprise that he has attracted interest from Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea who could use his goal-scoring ability to improve their title chances in the coming seasons.
Osimhen’s contract with SSC Napoli runs until June 2025 and if he keeps his form, the clubs chasing his signature will have to cough big bucks for it.
