Napoli defender Kim Min-jae has decided to join Manchester United this summer after several months of talks between the clubs and the player’s representatives.
According to The Mirror, Manchester United agreed to trigger and pay Kim’s release clause of €50 million (£43m).
The 26-year-old joined Napoli from Fenerbehce for €18.05 million last summer and has enjoyed a tremendous campaign as he starred in the club’s remarkable Serie A title-winning campaign.
Man United have earmarked the defensive star as a key summer target and the player has been convinced on a move. It comes after Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag insisted that players are now desperate to move to Manchester United despite some hesitancy last summer when he took the job.
United are currently fourth on the Premier League table but are yet to confirm qualification for Champions League football next season.
However, they are confident they can get maximum points from the remaining three matches and confirm their top four finish, which will boost their chances of attracting top talent in the summer transfer window.
Manchester United’s defence has been leaky this season conceding 41 goals. They believe Kim Min-jae can reinforce their defensive capabilities.
At Napoli, Kim has kept 16 clean sheets in 33 Serie A matches, and still spared some time to score two goals and provide four assists to his teammates.
After Kim’s transfer, the two clubs will reportedly hold more talks over star striker Victor Osimhen as Manchester United are also interested in him.
