Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign their star player Jude Bellingham.
The agreement is a €103 million (£86m) transfer fee for the 19-year-old Englishman who will undergo a medical exam in the coming days and then put pen to paper on a contract that will run for six years.
Both clubs entered negotiations less than a month ago and Real Madrid reached the agreement with the player and his parents shortly after, so it was just a matter of finding a number that would satisfy Borussia Dortmund to let him go.
After reaching the transfer agreement, Borussia Dortmund released a statement on that was published on their website on Wednesday afternoon that reads in part:
“With realisation of this transfer Real Madrid will pay BVB a fixed transfer compensation in the amount of 103.0 m. EUR. In addition, the payment of variable transfer fees up to a maximum total amount of around 30% of the amount of the fixed transfer fee has been agreed.
“Such variable transfer fees are dependent on the achievement of certain sporting successes by Real Madrid and/or sporting successes or performances of the player at Real Madrid in the period of the next six seasons.”
Bellingham joined Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2020 from Birmingham City, after growing through and graduating from their academy. Since making the switch, Bellingham’s star has taken a meteoric rise and shone through the Bundesliga and on international duty with England.
This is why he has attracted big clubs like his next Real Madrid as well as Manchester City who showed interest but never pursued him since Real Madrid was his preferred destination from the onset. Liverpool were also interested but pulled out of the race in April due to his huge price tag.
At Real Madrid, Bellingham is set to join a group of other youngsters like Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni. The trio is expected to take over Real Madrid’s midfield from the ageing duo of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos who are expected to leave at the end of next season.
